三軍總醫院昨日舉行「銀髮族新福音瓣膜手術甭開心」記者會，心臟血管外科醫師柯宏彥指出，主動脈瓣膜是心臟的門戶，一旦因退化或風濕等原因造成瓣膜出口狹窄，除導致心臟無法輸出足夠的血液供應全身循環外，也會逐漸造成心臟衰竭，唯一的方式是置換人工心臟瓣膜。但傳統手術必須在病患承受體外循環、心跳停止、麻醉等風險，因此，三總採取微創的「經導管主動脈瓣置換手術」。藉由導管深入血管，換掉損壞的瓣膜，再置放新瓣膜，此微創技術避免傳統開胸手術的大傷口、體外循環心臟暫停，以及長時間的全身麻醉，病患術後恢復較快，順利重返正常生活；從鼠蹊部深入導管，置換人工心臟瓣膜後，鼠蹊部僅有不到1公分的傷口，術後1週出院。
